Shenmo Education International was founded in Beijing in 1998 and is a global pioneer in Abacus and Mental Arithmetic training, with branches in more than 110 countries and regions. Shenmo Education Rwanda is the first African branch, carrying forward the mission to nurture and inspire young minds through joyful education, foundational numeracy, and cognitive agility.
The abacus is a hands-on calculating instrument made of rods and beads. Using a dual-hand system, children move beads while reading numbers—building number sense, coordination, and a clear picture of how addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division work. In 2013, abacus culture was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Children first learn on a physical abacus, then learn to visualize the beads in their minds and calculate without the tool—faster, more accurately, and with stronger focus. This brain training strengthens memory, concentration, and problem-solving for school and life.
Children move beads on the abacus to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Build speed, focus, and accuracy through fun, energetic lessons and drills.
Picture the abacus in the mind and perform Abacus Mental Math independently.
Our curriculum serves children aged 4–13 across six progressive levels, from basic addition and subtraction to complex multiplication, division, and advanced mental calculation.
Abacus Mental Math supports mathematics and develops broader cognitive skills that help children across school subjects and daily life—through a globally proven, engaging method.
Bead work trains attention, discipline, patience, and longer focus on detailed tasks.
Visualization and drills help children process, retain, and recall numbers quickly.
Mental arithmetic builds calculation speed while reducing careless mistakes.
Children learn to break problems down and solve them with clearer strategies.
Small wins build self-esteem, perseverance, and a lasting love of learning.
Two-hand training supports coordination, multitasking, and balanced brain development.
“It helps children think faster and more critically and understand that mathematics plays a vital role in many areas of life.”
“The abacus helps me solve mathematics problems faster. I’ve used it since I was seven, and today was the day I was waiting for.”
